Top Sportswear Picks for Spring 2015

Recently, I partnered up with Dicks Sporting Goods and was given the opportunity to explore their (HUGE!) store here in Chicago. Today I'm going to be sharing my top picks for spring that will come in handy not only for looking chic during your workout, but equally so on the street!

If you live in Chicago you know what an awful winter it's been. I took these pictures a few weeks ago when the wind chill was around -20 degrees and was hopping around like a crazy person trying not to be cold (can you tell?). It looks like we may have made it out of the freezing temps for good this week though, so I'm hoping that's actually true! I admittedly have been  hibernating all winter long, but I can finally say I'm back to the blog with new ideas and a fresh outlook - looking forward to posting more often!

Shoes | Pants Nike Legendary Tuxedo Tights (Currently Not Available Online) | Top | Sports Bra

If you've read my other posts, you know that I'm a big fan of comfort which is why I jumped at the opportunity to invest in a few sporty items at Dicks Sporting Goods. The best part is, adding these pieces to your everyday outfits is a cinch, especially with the sporty trend being so popular right now. I used to think that my size 9 feet were too big to wear actual training or running sneakers paired with things like skinny denim, but these New Balance and Nike shoes have changed my mind. They actually have kind of a slimming effect on my feet! Also, living in Chicago means I walk to do things pretty much everyday, so I've been really appreciating the comfy shoes. Just a side note about the fit: the New Balance I found to run a half size big so I had to go down a half size, and the Nike's I actually found the opposite and went up a half size.

When it comes to incorporating sports pieces into your outfits, I've found I'm always pleasantly surprised at the fresh feel it gives to my looks. The sneakers have gone with almost everything I usually wear and the tops and sports bras have been perfect for layering in the cold temps we've had. The black Nike leggings I picked up are basically just a better version of any leggings I already owned. Great with oversized sweaters and layered looks. Here are a few photos that I've pulled inspiration from over the past few weeks. These girls are killing it!

Annnnnnnd just in case you need another reason to start wearing workout gear on a regular basis, apparently some sources claim that you get better service at luxury stores while shopping if you're in gym clothes. Can't say I've tried it, but interesting nonetheless! What are your thoughts on sporty pieces for everyday? Are you a fan?

Swimwear Vacation Essentials

Photo: Karenwalkereyewear.com
I'm sure a lot of you like myself right about now are wrapped up trying to stay warm during this wintery weather that has taken over most of the United States this week! But just remember, it's sunny somewhere. My favorite thing to do when the cold is getting me down? Plan for vacation. It's actually kind of a weird habit I have even if I don't have a warm weather vacation planned in the near future (fortunately I'm looking forward to two upcoming vacays somewhere it's over 60 degrees). But vacation or no vacation, there's always something about browsing swimsuits and summer clothes that perks me right up.

Today I thought I'd share a few of the pieces I have my eye on for beach time and warm weather as I sit here shivering wrapped in a blanket in Chicago (as I'm typing this I actually just heard the news say we can expect around 8 inches in the next few days, oy vey).

When it comes to swimwear I have a tendency to go for suits that give me a little extra help up top. There's often a misconception that people like myself with a smaller frame  can wear anything they want, but personally I don't love looking like a straight up boy on the beach. For this reason I do love shopping Victoria's Secret swim collections because I always know what I'm going to get and they have great push-up bikinis. Plus I love pretty much all of the swimsuits in this swimwear 2015 video...(apologies in advance if this makes you want to do a thousand squats and lunges after watching like it did to me).

Anyway, here are some of my other favorites from the web right now that I'm eyeing for our upcoming trips! Feel the sunshine!

Don't you feel warmer inside already? I hope all of you are staying warm and maybe have a vacation planned to escape the frozen weather! What is your go-to swimwear brand?

Liebster Award

Photo: theeverygirl.com

So this is something new for me, I haven't really done a question and answer post before but after being nominated I figured now is as good of time as any!

Big thank you to Picky Me and Staffordable for nominating me for this award! The Liebster Award is an award for new bloggers that gets passed on from one blogger to the next. All you have to do is share some of your love, and you’ll receive some in return! Once you are nominated you answer the 11 questions given to you, choose 11 new followers to pass it on to, and then create 11 new questions for them. Since I was nominated by two bloggers (=22 questions) I cut out a few of them so this post doesn't go on forever. Read on for my answers!

1. What is the most ridiculous but very cool fashion trend you followed?
I tend to stay away from super trendy things, but you know how it is, sometimes you just can't resist. I would probably have to say that wedge sneakers are one trend that I hopped on board with after a little Isabel Marant  inspiration. I know a lot of people hate them (passionately) but let's face it, haters gonna hate! I still pull them out occasionally.

2. In what era would you most like to have  grown up in?
I would have loved to see Chicago back in the day, 1920's prohibition era. I'm kind of obsessed with architecture from that time period and all of the history that goes with it. There are still a few bars here that have original speakeasy rooms and I find it fascinating. I love the rich history that Chicago has.

3. What do you wish you were better at saying "no" to?
Take your pick - sweets, my dog Bella, sleeping in, that fourth cup of coffee.

4. What is one goal you hope to accomplish this year?
I don't usually make formal resolutions come the New Year, but I do like to take a little time to reflect and think on what I'd like to happen in the upcoming year. One thing I'd like to accomplish is finding an organization to give my time to. There are so many different charities here in Chicago, something for everyone which is really cool. I'd also like to pick up running again. I used to run almost everyday as a form of stress relief, and slowly dropped the habit over the last two years.

5. What would you like to be doing in 10 years?
In ten years I want to be able to travel a lot. Growing up with a pilot dad we were lucky to do a lot of travelling when I was younger, but there are still a lot of places I want to see like Greece and New Zealand.

6. Who did you get your work ethic from?
I think I inherited a little from both of my parents. My mom taught me to never be late, and to make sure to do everything to the best of my ability the first time around. My dad was always the more "relaxed" approach type of parent, but has always inspired me with his love for his job. Some people have a struggle to figure out what they want to do with their lives, but he was not one of them. I think I've learned to really seize the moments in life as much as possible from him - making good memories are really what its all about!

7. What is the worst thing about being a woman?
Paying for beauty products! I like to say that I'm not super high maintenance but even so, I think I might be lying to myself a little...If I have extra time and I find myself in a drugstore, browsing beauty products is definitely one of my weaknesses.

8. Who would you most like to see in a concert front row?
Already happened - Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake two summers ago, it was heaven! (Apparently there's still a teenage girl inside me that reverts back to screaming and crying when I see them).

9. How did you come up with your blog name?
It actually took some time, starting off with brainstorming a big list with one of my close friends. I narrowed it down and finally after a little input from my family and friends came up with City Style Shot.

10. What is one fear you would like to conquer?
Public speaking. I wasn't good at it in high school, and I'm not good at it now. I'm kind of an introvert with extrovert tendencies (if that makes any sense), so sometimes I will freeze up when I'm on the spot.

11. What’s your favorite thing to wear in your closet?
This is a hard one because it's always changing. I have this yellow dress with a flowy skirt that I love because it's just such a happy dress and reminds me of vacation and the beach. On a regular basis lately though I love wearing this big chunky cream sweater I got from Urban Outfitters years ago. It's like wearing a blanket when it's cold outside.

12. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Man, this is also a hard one. There is this amazing scallop dish with pureed cauliflower at Mon Ami Gabi that I absolutely love and get every time we go. I could probably eat that forever. Also bread, I love bread.

13. What are your favorite 3 stores?
I like to shop online a lot, so if we're talking websites I would say Asos, Mango, and Zara. Chicago has way too many amazing and unique stores to shop so it's impossible to pick just three. That's actually another goal I have for this year, to shop more actually in-store, specifically exploring Bucktown and all that it has to offer.
